Duke Sports Vision Center

Our Mission

“To apply the latest advances in medicine, science and technology to optimize visual-motor performance and dynamic visual abilities in athletes, under an academic-medicine program to evaluate and validate new and existing approaches.”

The Program

The Duke Sports Vision Center (DSVC) is a new, joint-venture between the Urbaniak Sports Sciences Institute, the Duke Eye Center, and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to provide state-of-the-art eye care and neurocognitive interventions to optimize and rehabilitate high performance vision.  Our multidisciplinary team includes specialists in ophthalmic care, sports vision, cognitive neuroscience, occupational and physical therapy and concussion rehabilitation, bringing to bear the latest in ocular health, vision rehabilitation and data-driven performance enhancement to improve vision essential to athletic performance.  This academic-medicine program includes elements of both clinical care and research, measuring vision and performance outcomes to advance the field of sports vision.

Services

World-class care offered through the Duke Eye Center is complimented by cutting-edge performance vision training programs at the Duke Sports Sciences Institute to optimize vision and neural processing skills essential in visually-demanding activities, such as sports, law enforcement, and emergency services. These scientifically-informed interventions include perceptual/cognitive training, virtual reality, neurofeedback and neurostimulation techniques to evaluate and enhance performance abilities that are specific to each individual’s sports-specific needs.
