Duke Advanced Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellow Course Celebrates 10th Anniversary
The Duke Fellows Advanced Surgery Course (fAVS) was held March 22-23, 2024, marking its 10th year. One of the first vitreoretinal surgery courses for fellows, it was led by course director Lejla Vajzovic, MD, FASRS and course co-chairs Dilraj Grewal, MD, FASRS, Xi Chen, MD, PhD, and Durga Borkar, MD, MMCi. Duke fAVS has become the premier educational course for retina fellows across the world, attracting 92 retina fellows and 14 resident awardees this year, along with 28 esteemed faculty speakers and 81 industry representatives.

Freedman Honored with Outstanding Educator Award by American Glaucoma Society
Sharon Freedman, MD was honored with the prestigious Outstanding Educator Award during the annual meeting of the America Glaucoma Society (AGS) on Saturday March 2, 2024. This award recognized her consistent and extraordinary commitment to advancing glaucoma education to residents, fellows, and colleagues including over 30 years of service with Duke Eye Center. Freedmen currently serves as tenured Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics, Chief of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Division, and Fellowship Director.
