The 56th annual meeting of the Retina Society is being held October 11 – 14, 2023 in New York City. The mission of the Retina Society is to "reduce worldwide visual disability and blindness by encouraging education and professional interaction of vitreoretinal specialists, providing optimal care for patients with vitreoretinal diseases, and encouraging, through clinical and basic research, the discovery and development of new means to further patient care." Several Duke Retina Faculty and trainees are participating in the meeting by leading and moderating sessions and presenting posters.

Toth Celebrates the Impact OCT has Made on Modern Eye Care in NEJM Article
Cynthia Toth, MD, is a pioneer in the development of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), over the last 30 years she and her colleagues including Joseph Izatt, PhD, Michael J. Fitzpatrick Distinguished Professor of Engineering, and Chair of Duke BME have revolutionized OCT. Toth and Izat have translated OCT to human imaging and over the years refined and discovered innovative applications including the first handheld OCT imaging system.
