The Digital Journal of Case Reports in Ophthalmology (DJCRO) uses an open peer-review process in which the identities of the authors are disclosed to the reviewers. The reviewers are members of the DJCRO Editorial Board. Following an initial assessment, each manuscript is ordinarily evaluated consecutively by three independent reviewers with relevant subject matter expertise.
The three independent reviewers are required to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest. Any board member who is involved in the handling or review of the manuscript with a conflict does not participate in the evaluation or decision-making process for that manuscript. The submission is instead reassigned to an unconflicted editor, reviewer, or other qualified member of the editorial team, who then oversees or is involved in the peer-review process and makes or recommends an editorial decision based on the reviewers’ assessments. Reviewers with relevant conflicts of interest are likewise recused and replaced.
