Congratulations to Medical Retina Fellow Oleg Alekseev, MD, PhD on receiving the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) Clinical/Research Fellowship Award in Inherited Orphan Retinal Degenerations.
We look forward to his future accomplishments at the Duke Center for Retinal Degenerations and Ophthalmic Genetic Diseases as the first Duke Inherited Retinal Degenerations (IRD) Fellow in 2021 under the mentorship of Alessandro Iannaccone, MD, MS, FARVO.
This prestigious award enables him to continue research that will contribute to discovery and development of IRD treatments to restore and limit vision loss in patients with retinal disease.
The Foundation Fighting Blindness has a clear goal – to drive the research that would lead to preventions, treatments, and vision restoration for the spectrum of degenerative retinal diseases, specifically macular degeneration – including age related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, Stargardt disease and Leber congenital amaurosis.
Today, the Foundation is the world’s leading private source for inherited retinal disease research funding. The Foundation is committed to driving research until the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases is eradicated.
Great work, Dr. Alekseev!
