Duke Eye Center Opens South Durham Clinic

Duke Health Center South Durham officially opened its first of numerous clinics to come—the Duke Eye Center South Durham (formerly Duke Eye Center Southpoint)—which received nearly 100 patients on Tues. Jan. 16. Duke Eye Center at Southpoint on Herndon Road is now closed, and oculofacial plastic surgery has relocated from Duke Aesthetic Center.

Patients arriving on the inaugural day commented on the convenient location, welcoming entrance, modern and comfortable décor, and special features designed for efficient flow and easier access.

Some of the new features include low-vision-compliance with contrasting colors on the floor to enhance visibility for patients with low vision; 24 eye lanes designed to accommodate providers and staff; a new laser suite for retina, cornea, and glaucoma (LASIK is not offered at this location); and capacity to effectively serve as many as 250 patients each day.

Services provided in the South Durham location include:

  • comprehensive
  • cornea
  • glaucoma
  • oculofacial plastic surgery
  • retina
  • pediatrics
