Duke Health proudly recognizes employees that go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Today we celebrate Ivonne Rodriguez, COMT, CO, an orthoptist with Duke Eye Center who received the Duke Health Strength Hope and Caring Award for taking action to save a child.
Rodriguez noticed that a child had gotten away from their mother and run through the doors at the main entrance of Duke Eye Center, nearly hit in an area that is very busy with patient drop off, pick up and valet services. She sprinted through the doors asking him to stop as he was headed toward Erwin Rd. Rodriguez was finally able to catch up and stop him right before he got to Erwin Rd. We are thankful for Rodriguez for noticing this child and taking action to prevent what could have been a very tragic accident.
