Duke Faculty Featured in Eye Care Network Fall Review of Emerging Trends in Eye Care

Several Duke Eye Center faculty and trainees were highlighted in a recent feature from Eye Care Network,, "Redrawing the Lines: What a Busy Fall Told Us Across Neurology, Infectious Disease, and Eye Care," which examined key trends and developments from AAO 2026 and other major fall meetings.

Among those featured were Sharon Fekrat, MD, FACS, FASRS, who discussed how retinal imaging is helping advance understanding of the brain-eye connection in conditions such as traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative disease; SriniVas Sadda, MD, who shared new approaches to measuring geographic atrophy progression that could influence future clinical trials; and Linus Shen, MD, a Duke Retina Fellow, who presented phase 2 data showing promising results for a potential treatment to slow geographic atrophy growth.

The article identified two overarching themes emerging across medicine: the shift toward more personalized approaches to disease classification and treatment, and an increasing focus on therapies that demonstrate durable, long-term benefits. Duke's contributions help underscore the institution's leadership in advancing research and innovation in ophthalmology.
