During the week, the team completed 24 cataract surgeries, 8 pterygium surgeries, and 92 eye exams, significantly expanding access to vision care for the local community. The group also conducted an outreach clinic at Clinica Estrella Brillante, a local pediatrician’s office, to reach additional patients in need.
The Duke team included Anupama Horne, MD, Melissa Daluvoy, MD, Todd Carey, RN, Valerie Honeycutt, COT, Chablis Love, COA, Cherylyn Huggans, COA and Mayra Rosas Avalos, COA with support from Susan Barnett of Health in Sight, who stepped in to assist in the OR.
