Maria Gomez-Caraballo, Duke School of Medicine third year medical student, has been selected for the 2019 Duke Physician Scientist Institutional Award, a Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Research Fellowship for Medical Students, for her project, “Caveolin-mediated mechanosensation in Schlemm’s canal endothelia.” The award will support Maria's second third year of research in the lab of W. Daniel Stamer, PhD.
The Duke Physician Scientist Institutional Award (BWF) Research Fellowship for Medical Students is designed to encourage rising third year medical students to undertake a basic/bench research project at Duke University, with preference given to those who plan to commit to doing a second third year. This award offers opportunities and support for the medical student to pursue training that will enable her/him to launch and continue a successful career as an independent investigator. There will be one $25,000 award given for a second year of research. This program is made possible through a grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.
