The North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (NCSEPS) held its annual meeting in Greensboro, NC September 14-15, 2024. NCSEPS strives to represent the best interests of ophthalmologists and their patients through advocacy and education. The annual meeting includes an educational program that presents medical and surgical developments in ophthalmology, along with the opportunity to network with ophthalmologists across the state of North Carolina.
Duke Faculty presenters included Oleg Alekseev, MD, PhD, Melissa Daluvoy, MD, Divakar Gupta, MD, Arpita Maniar, MD, Tina Singh, MD, Amol Sura, MD and Lloyd Williams, MD, PhD. Several Duke trainees also participated in the meeting with poster and case presentations.
Duke Trainees recieved recognition during the NCSEPS poster competition, earning the top three awards:
- 3rd place $100: Bani Antonio-Aguirre, MD, MPH, Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Recurrent Pediatric Retinal Detachments: Understanding Characteristics, Risk Factors, and Surgical Outcomes Over Two Decades in a Single Tertiary Medical Center
- 2nd place $200: Anjali Saini, Clinical research specialist - Feasibility of Screening for Pediatric Retinal Disease in Children Without Pharmacologic Dilation
- 1st place $300: Gregory McElroy, MD, Ophthalmology Resident - Expression of Yeast NDI1 as a Neuroprotective Approach to RGC Mitochondrial Deficiency in a Mouse Model of LHON
Lloyd Williams, MD, PhD is the NCSEPS President-Elect. Sharon Fekrat, MD, FACS, FASRS and Divakar Gupta, MD also serve in a leadership roles as the NC American College of Surgeons Representative and Member at Large for the Durham area, respectively.
