Professor of Ophthalmology and Glaucoma Division Chief, Leon Herndon, MD was among the honorees named on the 2023 The Ophthalmologist "Power List".
This year, to mark its 10-year anniversary, the Power List spotlighted 100 individuals who have demonstrated "Ten Years of Excellence and Impact in Ophthalmology". The list was determined by a panel of 15 internationally renowned judges, who received hundreds of nominations from some of the biggest names in ophthalmology.
Herndon has been practicing ophthalmology for over 30 years. Since he joined Duke Eye Center faculty in July of 1996, he has trained 84 clinical fellows.
He has authored numerous papers, lectured nationally and internationally, and participated in several research projects related to glaucoma. Dr. Herndon has been recognized for his service in the community by receiving the Senior Achievement Award from the AAO and the Dedicated Humanitarian Service Award. He was also the recipient of the Distinguished Medical Alumnus Award from the UNC School of Medicine. Herndon currently serves as the president of the American Glaucoma Society.
