We are proud to announce that Elizabeth Hunter, MHA, CFM has been selected Chief Departmental Administrator for Duke Ophthalmology effective May 1, 2021. Elizabeth has served as Interim Chief since November 2020 while maintaining her role as Director of Finance during a national search to fill the position. An executive senior member of the leadership team, she is a key thought leader for financial strategy, accounting consistency and controls, resource planning, and clinical, academic and research administrative operations.
Elizabeth is an accomplished leader at Duke Eye Center. In her role as Director of Finance, she executed successful expense reduction initiatives annually, resulting in significant savings to the Department and has maintained a positive operating budget. Elizabeth has developed and implemented advanced practice policies, process improvement initiatives and financial improvements that have provided tremendous value to the Department.
Prior to joining Duke Eye Center, she held positions at Duke University Hospital that supported Ambulatory Hospital-Based Clinics, Inpatient Pharmacy, Procedural Labs, and Gastroenterology.
Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Finance from Wofford College and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to Duke, she began her career at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Administration. From there, she transitioned to work at Dixon Hughes, PLLC as a Healthcare Reimbursement Associate.
Elizabeth enjoys living in North Carolina with her husband and son and is honored to be a member of the Duke Eye Center team.
