Vice Chair of Clinical Research and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Eleonora Lad, MD, PhD spoke with Ocular Surgery News to share an update on the use of anti-VEGF biosimilars for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration.
A recent study, presented at the ARVO annual meeting, evaluated the efficacy and safety of anti-VEGF biosimilars vs. reference drugs. The study found that the anti-VEGF biosimilars were similar in effectiveness and safety to the reference drugs.
“This affords us an opportunity as clinicians for cost savings and increased accessibility of treatment to patients worldwide,” Lad said.
