Kyle McPherson and Ryan McNabb, PhD, MBA recently participated in the Emerging Vision Scientists Program, an advocacy and professional development initiative hosted by the Alliance for Vision Research in Washington, D.C.
The program brings together early-career vision researchers to strengthen science communication skills and learn how to effectively advocate for vision research and science policy. As part of the experience, participants met with congressional staff to discuss the importance of federal support for vision research and its impact on patients and scientific discovery.
During their time in Washington, McPherson and McNabb met with staff members from the offices of Sen. Ted Budd, Sen. Thom Tillis, and Rep. Valerie Foushee, sharing perspectives on the value of continued investment in vision science and research.
