Medical Students Receive ARVO Poster Awards

Two third year Duke University Medical Students and Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Members in Training (MIT) won Best Poster awards at the 2018 ARVO Annual Meeting, held April 28 - May 3.   

Isaac Bleicher won the Multidisciplinary Ophthalmic Imaging Cross-sectional Group best poster award for his poster "Axial Position-Based Colorization Improves Intraoperative Visualization of Live Volumetric (4D) Microscope-Integrated Optical Coherence Tomography (MIOCT)." Cynthia Toth, MD, Joseph AC Wadsworth Professor of Ophthalmology, Duke School of Medicine served as Isaac's mentor for this research.

Jeannette Yu won the Clinical/Epidemiologic Research Group best poster award for her poster "Clinical Course and Genetics of Drusenoid Pigment Epithelia Detachment in AMD in AREDS2." Emily Chew, MD, director of the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Applications and the deputy clinical director at the National Eye Institute (NEI) served as Jeannette's mentor for this research.

These awards represent an important accomplishment in their early years of medical training.
