PGY1 Ophthalmology Resident Agnes Owete, MD, traveled to Portland, Oregon last week to represent the Duke Global Ophthalmology Program at the 2024 Global Ophthalmology Summit.
Owete's abstract, “First Cases of Gonioscopy Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy (GATT) in Kigali, Rwanda”, was one of four selected to be presented during the meeting's research session. She collaborated with Professor of ophthalmology, Leon Herndon, MD on this project.
She also presented her poster, "High Prevalence of Angle Closure Glaucoma in a Tertiary Eye Service in Burundi: A Retrospective Observational Study", that she worked on with John Cropsey, MD from the Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO) during the poster session.
The mission of the Global Ophthalmology Summit is to improve eye health and eliminate vision loss through global ophthalmology education, research, collaboration, public health advocacy and by bridging global eye care stakeholders.
