Lejla Vajzovic, MD received the Duke Medical Alumni Association's Emerging Leader Award. Vajzovic was selected based on her clinical work in the field of pediatric retinal disease, as well as her leadership and dedication as an educator in the field of ophthalmology.
This award recognizes her as a national and international leader in training the next generation of vitreoretinal surgeons, and that she is a leading vitreoretinal surgeon who provides the highest level of exemplary care.
Vajzovic's supporters noted that "in six short years at Duke, she has established an international reputation as one of the stars of vitreoretinal surgery, research and surgical teaching, and personally Lejla is a joy to be around." She is also recognized for her remarkable contributions as a clincial surgeon, investigator, educator, and humanitarian.
