
Duke Eye Center is proud to announce that Jason Fan, MD, PhD has joined Duke Eye Center as a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon. Dr. Fan is passionate about helping patients preserve and restore their vision using the latest technologies, medical treatments, and surgical techniques. He has a special interest in ocular trauma, dislocated intraocular lenses, and diabetic retinal detachments.
Dr. Fan treats a wide range of retinal conditions including macular edema, retinal degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, retinal vein occlusion, and macular degeneration. His approach to care is deeply personal, valuing meeting patients, hearing their stories, and doing everything he can to support their vision journey.
“I believe I have the best job in the world,” says Dr. Fan. “I love meeting people, hearing about their experiences, and helping them with their retinal conditions. My calling is to do everything I can to help patients with their vision.”
Dr. Fan completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and served as Chief Resident at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Florida in 2025. He also completed his ophthalmology residency there in 2023. He earned both his MD and PhD from Columbia University in New York in 2019.
He is thrilled to be part of Duke’s collaborative, world-class team that always puts patients first. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and playing the piano.
