Lee Ann McKinney, COT, OSC is the Director of the Duke Ophthalmic Technician Training Program as well as the Health Center Administrator for the Eye Center of Winston Salem. Lee Ann has been with Duke Eye Center since 2011 after graduating from the Duke Op Tech Program.
As the Director of the Op Tech Program, Lee Ann has taken pride in introducing students to the basics of ophthalmology and preparing the cohort to perform basic ophthalmic skills. At the end of the program (one year), students will be primed and prepared to sit for their Certified Ophthalmic Technician exam and join the workforce as well rounded, highly skilled ophthalmic technicians. This has historically been a strong “feeder” program within the Eye Center for technician hires.
In the capacity of HCA in Winston Salem, Lee Ann is responsible for managing and overseeing all clinic operations at this location. This includes tasks such as monitoring clinic flow, management of clinical staff within the office, working alongside clinic Service Access Manager to help manage clerical staff, maintaining Joint Commission preparedness/readiness, and acting as a liaison between faculty and administration.
Lee Ann takes great pride in the Department and strives to serve in any way to help meet departmental goals. Lee Ann is invested in personal development and is currently enrolled as full time student pursuing her Bachelors in Health Care Administration. In Lee Ann’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her 3 young children.
