Duke at WIO Summer Symposium 2024

We are proud to have 22 Duke led presentations at the 2024 Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) Summer Symposium in Carlsbad, California held August 22-25. 

WIO is an internationally recognized organization that provides medical education and professional development resources for women in ophthalmology and is one of the fastest growing organizations among medical professionals. This annual meeting is curated to offer “the best of the best” content in all subjects of importance to female ophthalmologists. 

Professor of Ophthalmology Laura Enyedi, MD and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Lejla Vajzovic, MD, FASRS both serve on the WIO board of directors, as AAO Councilor and Treasurer, respectively. 

More meeting highlights will include: 

  • Enyedi moderating for the third Keynote Session: "Inspire & Unite: Personal and Professional Challenges" and presenting during that session on "Bite-sized Gratitude."
  • Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Durga Borkar, MD, MMCi and Vajzovic presenting during the CME Spotlight Sessions.
  • Vajzovic moderating the "Getting Involved in Clinical Research and Beyond: A WIO Clinical Trials Training Program Session".
  • Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Jullia Rosdahl, MD, PhD serving as lab instructor during the "Suturing Techniques" skills lab.
  • Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology Grace Prakalapakorn, MD and Clinical Associate Avital Okrent Smolar, MD presenting during the virtual sessions.
  • Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Majda Hadziahmetovic, MD presenting during the general session.
  • 10 poster presentations by Duke Faculty and trainees.
