Duke Eye Center faculty and trainees shared their expertise at the 2026 Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) Summer Symposium, held August 20-23 in Monterey, California. The annual meeting brings together ophthalmologists from across the country for education, mentorship, leadership development, and discussions on the latest advances in eye care.
Duke participants contributed through invited presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and scientific posters. Presenters included Lejla Vajzovic, MD, FASRS, Laura Enyedi, MD, Majda Hadziahmetovic, MD, Durga Borkar, MD, MMCi, Mays Dairi, MD, Angela Li, MD, Irene Song, MD, Arthi Vaidyanathan, MD, and Reem Amine, MD, whose work highlighted innovations in retina, glaucoma, cataract surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, gene therapy, clinical trials, and patient education.
The meeting also highlighted Duke's leadership within the organization, with Lejla Vajzovic, MD serving as President-Elect of Women in Ophthalmology and Laura Enyedi, MD serving as an AAO Councilor.
Through their contributions and leadership roles, Duke representatives helped advance discussions on education, research, innovation, and the future of ophthalmology.
