O'Sullivan Receives Machemer Award

Matthew O’Sullivan MD, PhD, PGY1 is the recipient of the 2019 Machemer Resident Research Award for his project titled, "Oxygen Regulates Retinal Astrocyte Proliferation to Guide Angiogenesis During Retinal Development."  He was chosen after a masked review of submissions. His mentor for this project was Jeremy Kay, PhD.  O'Sullivan will present the findings at the Annual Residents and Fellows Scientific Symposium.  

The Machemer Resident Research Award was established in honor of Duke Ophthalmology's former Chair Robert Machemer, MD.  It is given to one resident each academic year whose research proposal demonstrates intellectual curiosity and scientific originality.
