The R. Rand Allingham, MD Research Fund Receives Special Matching Opportunity

The Duke Department of Ophthalmology established the R. Rand Allingham, MD Research Fund, which is a permanent endowment to provide research support for early career faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology.  The fund was established in 2018 in honor of the late Dr. Rand Allingham, who was an outstanding clinician-scientist at Duke Eye Center and internationally recognized physician and researcher in glaucoma. Beyond this work, Dr. Allingham was a mentor to generations of residents, fellows and junior faculty that passed through Duke Eye Center.

The R. Rand Allingham, MD Research Fund honors Dr. Allingham’s legacy of mentorship and support by providing research support for junior faculty. Through the generous gifts of alumni and friends, it is our ultimate hope that this fund will reach the level of support needed to fund an assistant or associate level professorship.

We have received a special matching opportunity to honor Rand. LCI, the largest employer of blind and visually impaired people and a longtime supporter of Duke Eye Center and Dr. Allingham’s work has agreed to match all gifts dollar for dollar up to $50,000. Every gift will have double the impact!

There are many creative and meaningful ways to make a gift or pledge. Our executive director of development, Jillian Ream is happy to discuss these options with you. She can be reached at 919-385-3197 or jillian.ream@duke.edu. You may also make a gift online at gifts.duke.edu/dukeeye.

Thank you for your support.
