Duke at ASCRS 2026

Duke Eye Center faculty and trainees made a strong showing at the 2026 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting, contributing podium presentations, instructional courses, and electronic posters, while also earning several prestigious national honors.

This year, Hazem Mousa, MD, and Ailin Song, MD, received the ASCRS Resident Excellence Award, a distinction created to honor ASCRS’s roots in young, enterprising ophthalmologists. The award recognizes residents who demonstrate exemplary performance in research, patient care, leadership, and education. Recipients receive a travel grant, four nights of lodging, complimentary meeting registration, and invitations to select leadership and networking events.

In addition, Duke Global Ophthalmology fellow Sheena Song, MD, was honored with the Young Eye Surgeons (YES) International Service Award, supported by the ASCRS Foundation’s Young Eye Surgeons International Service (YIS) Grant. The grant is designed to inspire young ophthalmologists to engage in long‑term global eye care efforts. It provides recipients the opportunity to participate in health systems, teaching institutions, and community programs in developing countries. Working with the ASCRS Foundation and its international partners, awardees develop a customized international volunteer plan that offers first‑hand experience in the complexities and impact of global eye care delivery.
