2016 Fellows Advanced Vitreous Surgery Course

The Fellows Advanced Vitreous Surgery (FAVS) course was held at Duke Eye Center April 15-16, 2016. The course is an opportunity for first year surgical VR, medical retina, and uveitis fellows from across the country to experience a dedicated program to highlight techniques and concepts as they transition into their second year of training.   During the two-day event, Duke ophthalmology faculty and guest faculty from leading institutions around the country presented cutting-edge vitroretinal surgical techniques, therapeutic pharmacologic treatment strategies and advanced ophthalmic imaging. The participants were able to get hands-on experience in the during the wet lab sessions with new surgical techniques and instrumentation.  During the lectures, the group discussed how recent clinical trial evidence translates into the clinical setting.   The course was designed to help fellows develop personalized treatment algorithms for common retinal diseases and raise awareness of current real-world retinal practice issues.
