2021 Duke Advances in Pediatric Retina Course

The 2021 Duke Advances in Pediatric Retina Course was a success!

The two-day virtual course took place on September 18-19, 2021 and focused on the advances in diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of pediatric retinal diseases with debate about different treatments, surgical approaches, and management of complications. The faculty was comprised of individuals who are recognized as leaders in the field and who are also motivated to actively engage with the attendees throughout the course.

Some of the topics included advances in Coats’ Disease, Retinal Vascular Disease, Retinopathy of Prematurity, Gene Therapy, Pediatric Retinal Surgery, Uveitis/Retinitis, Retinal Disease Imaging, Trauma, Non-surgical Treatments and Challenging Cases, and COVID-19 patient care challenges.

Case presentations by the invited faculty included preoperative diagnostic imaging, intraoperative videos, and avoiding, addressing, and managing challenges, and complications. Trainees and junior faculty submitted video cases and challenges that were reviewed and discussed by experts to improve the knowledge of these trainees and all attendees as to the identification and timely care of these problems.
