2021 URiM Medical Student Summer Mentored Research Opportunity at Duke Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking non-Duke medical student participants for a paid 8-week research opportunity. The student will work in a faculty research lab, gain clinical exposure and benefit from a planned curriculum, discussion sessions and collaborations with other medical students. We strive to enhance innovation in medical science and promote health equity by developing a diverse cohort of successful research scientists.

Qualifications

  • Program dates run June through July (8-weeks)
  • Individuals meeting the NIH definition of Underrepresented Populations in the U.S. (URiM) are encouraged to apply.
  • United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Commit to full-time (40 hours/week) research for 8 weeks
  • Provide names/contact information of two references
  • Required submission of Curriculum Vitae, Undergraduate transcript, Medical school transcript (if enrolled) or letter of acceptance
  • Clinical shadowing vaccine requirements: TB, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, COVID-19
