Duke at AAO 2023

The annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) will be held November 3-6, 2023 in San Francisco, CA. Duke Eye Center will have over 75 presentations, posters, and symposiums that our faculty, residents, and fellows will present throughout the course of the meeting with 10 subspecialty day presentations.

Cynthia Toth, MD will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Honor Award in recognition of her contributions to the Academy and its scientific and educational programs in ophthalmology. To qualify for this award, individuals must earn 60 points and be approved by the Awards Committee and the Board of Trustees.

Laura Enyedi, MD will receive the Secretariat Award, recognizing special contributions to the Academy and ophthalmology, as determined by Academy Senior Secretaries and Secretaries in their respective areas. Kourtney Houser, MD will receive the Achievement Award for contributions made to the Academy and earning 10 points approved by the Awards Committee and the Board of Trustees.

Miguel Materin, MD will serve as Program Chair for the Ocular Oncology and Pathology Subspecialty Day in conjunction with the American Association of Ophthalmic Oncologists and Pathologists at AAO 2023. Materin shares this honor with Claudia Maria Prospero Ponce, MD to provide up-to-date discussions and debates on the most relevant, interesting, and controversial topics regarding ocular pathology and tumors of the eye and ocular adnexa.

Lejla Vajzovic, MD, FASRS will serve on the EyeCelerator Program Committee. Eyecelerator advances eye care innovation by connecting mission-driven entrepreneurs, investors, physicians, and business leaders through next-generation business conferences.
