Duke Eye Center faculty, residents, and staff representatives attended the annual meeting of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) in Austin, Texas January 31 – February 3, 2024. AUPO works to encourage the promotion of medical education, research, and patient care in ophthalmology.
Residency Program Director Pratap Challa, MD and Director of Medical Student Education Jullia Rosdahl, MD, PhD lead round table discussions and presented on topics including, "Designing a Structured Research Curriculum into Your Residency Program", "Coordinated Interview Release" and “How To Write a Good Letter of Recommendation”.
PGY4 Resident Rami Gabriel, MD was honored with a Resident and Fellow Research Forum Award. This award was established by AUPO and Research to Prevent Blindness to acknowledge the importance of research in ophthalmic education and encourage the most promising house officers to pursue a career in academic ophthalmology and vision research. Gabriel presented during the research forum his research on “Drug-eluting Dissolvable Plugs for Glaucoma Tubes”.
PGY2 Resident Keke Liu, MD also presented on "Education Outcomes from Ophthalmology Microsurgery Course for Medical Students" during the Ophthalmology Medical Student Education paper session.
