Duke Ophthalmology is expanding international education by leading educational sessions at international society meetings – also called the Conference Exchange. One of our first outreach efforts includes a group of 10 Duke Ophthalmology faculty leading sessions in The Colombian Society of Ophthalmology – DUKE 2019 Course in Bogota, Colombia to share their knowledge and experiences with Latin American colleagues in various subspecialties of ophthalmology.
The event featured renowned ophthalmologists: Edward G. Buckley, MD; Scott W. Cousins, MD; Preeya K. Gupta, MD; Terry Kim, MD; Ilya Leyngold, MD; Felipe Medeiros, MD; Victor Perez, MD; Federico Vélez, MD.
The two-day meeting consisted of lectures in pediatric ophthalmology, medical retina, cornea, oculofacial, ocular immunology and glaucoma. Presentations included research, case presentations and an opportunity for discussion among the speakers and attendees at the end of each session. There were 320 registered participants from Colombia and several other Latin American Countries who attended.
Duke ophthalmology looks forward to continued expansion of our international programs by connecting with colleagues around the world with the intention to share expertise and educate future ophthalmologists. The next meetings are planned to for 2020 In Uruguay and Ecuador.
