Duke Retina at Vail Vitrectomy 2022

It has been a great week at Vail Vitrectomy 2022 with the presence of many Duke Retina presenters. We enjoyed presentations by Duke faculty, alumni, and colleagues from around the country.

The invitation-only Vail Vitrectomy meeting was created by former Duke Ophthalmology Chair, Robert Machemer. Machemer (1933-2009) accepted the Chairmanship of the Department of Ophthalmology at Duke University in 1978 and as Chairman, he advanced the department from a clinical center into a first-class clinical and research department. He made new discoveries that changed the world of retinal surgery, especially with his introduction of the new surgical technique, pars plana vitrectomy.
