Ophthalmology 3rd Year Experience

The Third Year at the Duke University School of Medicine represents a distinctive opportunity for the student to broaden his/her/their background in basic science as well as patient-oriented research. The primary goal of the third year is to develop tomorrow's physician leaders through a rigorous scholarly experience in biomedical-related research.

One of Duke's medical students, Anita Kundu is in her third year conducting research that could change lives. As a child, she suffered from several eye conditions. Her interest in ophthalmology led her to work on research analyzing the retina of Parkinson patients. She is now  conducting research under the mentorship of Sharon Fekrat, MD to create a prognostic tool that could diagnose Parkinson patients through a retinal scan.
