Dr. Liu joined the Duke University School of Medicine Department of Neurology Faculty in 2019 where he is a member of the Duke Memory Disorders clinic. He evaluates patients with various cognitive, behavioral and psychiatric disorders. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Liu has a strong research interest in various fluid biomarkers. He currently directs and stores plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples stored at Duke for novel biomarker discovery. Additionally, he is the PI of a clinical trial that investigates the utility of skin biopsies for the diagnoses of Parkinson’s disease by detecting alpha-synuclein in the biopsy samples. Moreover, Dr. Liu is a member of the Duke/UNC ADRC executive committee and clinical core.

He currently works with a neurology resident, Dr. Deborah Rose, on investigating and establishing the causes of racial disparities in the development of Alzheimer’s Disease in the African American population. Lastly, his other interests include investigating why Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) patients develop cognitive and behavioral difficulties later in life.
