I have been at Duke, specifically in the Department of Ophthalmology for over 23 years now. Much of this time was in progressive roles, including Health Center Administrator, at the Eye Center in Winston Salem, where I came on board just after Dr. Philip McKinley donated his practice to Duke. In my current role of Division Administrator, I am able to pull from a myriad of experience in the field, in order to provide support to faculty in the comprehensive, cornea, glaucoma, and oculoplastics services. My Masters in Healthcare Administration from Winston Salem State University has been a great addition to my knowledge base. This has equipped me for job duties that includes review of financial reports, proforma builds, budget preparations, faculty recruitment, negotiating external contracts, support for revenue cycle build projects, faculty annual reviews, oversight for the staff assistants and helping build prestigious programs, most notable, the Ocular Immunology Center, and currently, Global Ophthalmology. I love the fact that when I start my day at the Eye Center, not only am I doing so surrounded by a team of folks who are all passionate about the work they do, I know that there is an immense possibility that the day will bring on something new where there is an opportunity to learn and grow.
