On September 4, 2025, Duke Eye Center welcomed Jeffrey Goldberg, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University, for the Joseph M. Bryan Research Lecture.

In October 2024, severe changes in vision sent Don Johnson, 70, to the Duke Eye Center, where he was diagnosed with a detached retina. Following a surgical procedure called a vitrectomy, his vision is back to normal. “I've been really impressed with Duke,” Johnson said.

Lloyd B. Williams, MD, PhD has been awarded the 2025 Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
