Gospe honored with the 2023 North American Neuro Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) Pilot Grant Award
Congratulations to Sidney Gospe III, MD, PhD for receiving the Pilot Research Grant Award for his work on "Reducing neuro-inflammation in a mouse model of mitochondrial optic neuropathy". This award was announced at the annual North American Neuro-ophthalmology Society (NANOS) meeting that took place in Orlando, Florida March 2023.
Konda and Tian Receive ASCRS Foundation Resident Excellence Award

Leon Herndon, MD announced as AGS President
Leon Herndon, MD, professor of ophthalmology and glaucoma division chief was named President of the American Glaucoma Society (AGS) for 2023-2024 at the conclusion of the annual meeting held March 2-5 in Austin, Texas. Herndon has been an active member of AGS, previously serving in various leadership roles, on the board of directors, and most recently vice president from 2022-2023.
A New Era in Dry AMD Treatment
On February 17, 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a groundbreaking treatment to treat geographic atrophy (GA), an advanced form of dry macular degeneration (AMD). Eleonora Lad, MD, PhD, director of clinical research and associate professor, was a lead investigator in the OAKS trial, a pivotal clinical trial that supported the FDA approval.
