Senior Research Associate Tanu Parmar, PhD was selected to participate in the 2024 Emerging Vision Scientists Program, held September 16-17, 2024 in Washington, DC. The program is run by the Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) and is sponsored by Research to Prevent Blindness. 

The Inaugural Edward G. Buckley Lecture in Pediatric Ophthalmology was held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Duke Eye Center's AERI Auditorium.

The North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (NCSEPS) held its annual meeting in Greensboro, NC September 14-15, 2024. NCSEPS strives to represent the best interests of ophthalmologists and their patients through advocacy and education. The annual meeting includes an educational program that presents medical and surgical developments in ophthalmology, along with the opportunity to network with ophthalmologists across the state of North Carolina. 

The 57th annual meeting of the Retina Society was held September 11-15, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal. Several Duke Retina Faculty and trainees participated in the meeting, including Durga Borkar, MD, MMCi, Sharon Fekrat, MD, FACS, FASRS, Majda Hadziahmetovic, MD, Glenn Jaffe, MD, Eleonora Lad, MD, PhD, Cynthia Toth, MD, Lejla Vajzovic, MD, FASRS, Michalis Georgiou, MD, PhD, Tammy Hsu, MD, Mustafa Iftikhar, MD, Angela Li, MD and Hemal Patel.

Duke Ophthalmic Photographer Ryan Imperio, CRA, OCT-C has been honored with the 2024 Astronomy Photographer of the Year Award. This prestigious award is presented by the Royal Museums Greenwich in London, United Kingdom and is the world's largest and most prestigious contest of its kind, with more than 3,500 submissions from 58 countries. 

Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Vitreoretinal Disease Specialist, Madja Hadziahmetovic, MD published an article in the September Issue of Retina entitled, "Managing DR in Pregnancy: A (Not-So) Hot Topic."

This virtual event is open to all residency applicants, and is an opportunity to hear directly from program directors, faculty, and residents about training opportunities at Duke and life in Durham, NC.

Vice Chair for Clinical Research and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Eleonora Lad, MD, PhD was featured in a recent Healio Video Perspective from the 2024 ASRS meeting. 

We are thrilled to announce that Kevin Jackson, MD has joined the Duke Eye Center Cornea Division. Dr. Jackson completed his ophthalmology residency training and a cornea fellowship at Duke and it is a honor to welcome him back as a faculty member.
